Part of the ITS community is in the process of translating a piece called The Little Tea Book by Arthur Gray, which is a short collection of poetry and prose about the history, origins, and cultural significance of tea. The book is originally in English and is being translated into Spanish and Chinese by both current students and ITS alumni. As the book is about tea, we’ve decided to call this undertaking the I-Tea-S project (can you guess who came up with this fabulous pun?)
On the evening of February 16th, the ITS family came together alongside Wake Forest’s tea club, the World Tea Association, to celebrate the completion of the first third of this project. The event took place in the cheerful firelight from the fire pits in Manchester Plaza, and featured a traditional gongfu tea ceremony. After the tea ceremony, we all enjoyed delicious Pu’er tea and munched on croissants as each translation team shared anecdotes about the translation process thus far. It was a delightful opportunity both to learn about tea and to share our project with other members of the campus community.
The next event in the I-Tea-S series will be held on Wednesday, March 16th, and will feature a discussion on tea making in Japan and China (and of course, the opportunity to drink more tea.) Please feel free to attend if you’re in the area! We’d love to share and celebrate this project with you!
